This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Pity there aren't more books like this documenting the post-war jazz scene - Newcastle's own New Orleans Club must be worth a few sheets of paper, surely? Having said that (and never having been to Redcar Jazz Club), out of 179 listed "acts" appearing there, only 27 - by my lights - count as "jazz performers". The rest are pop and rock acts of the time and some blues artists. So, although I've not read the book, on the face of it there would seem to be precious little about jazz in it.

I have a number of posters, etc, put together by Joe Young. I do not have the "local knowledge" to document the post-war North East Jazz scene ( being an incomer from 1975 ) but I would be happy to loan these to anyone who could do it.
At one time Ray Brown , in association with Eric Miller I believe, had a collection but I don't know where it went. There are several interesting articles, with photos, in That'll Be The Day : 1950s Newcastle , published by Newcastle City Libraries, 2012, ISBN:978-1-86795-210-0.
