This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. International Jazz Day/Anniversary Celebration @ The Globe - Part 2: Jam Session - April 30

The big band sounds fade as we disco our way up to the Jazz Bar where the house trio for tonight are doing nice things to There is No Greater Love followed by It Could Happen to You.
Tasteful as a bottle of Marston's Pedigree.
Paul Gowland, after making his way across town from Strictly Smokin's Millstone gig, stepped up to the plate for Darn That Dream - stunning cadenza at the end. This had been a night for cadenzas! Oleo upped the game with Meet the Flintstones creeping in along the way!
Alan Law vacated the piano stole to enable Paul Edis to join forces with Stu Finden for Days of Wine and Roses. This had been a night for pianists and it wasn't over yet!
Fi joined her husband, Peter Ninnim went on to drums and Dave Parker moved in on the bass for On Green Dolphin Street.
No pianist to accompany Fiona but, God Bless the Child whose got Paul Gowland to hand.
The tenor player sat down and played piano - he played it well.
Paul went back to tenor and drum legend Ian Forbes hit the skins - this had been a night for drum legends!
I'll Remember April - was ever a tune more apt than tonight?
Psychedelic Sally had Debra Milne handling the vocal with the two tenormen for support before the Findens saw us off on the A Train and I'm sure everyone bought a return ticket...
