Jazz makes its debut at The Bessie Boyd

David Gosling sent me the following info re a new venue Way Out West:
The Bessie Boyd, a new venue in Carlisle, is to launch its first jazz performance on Thursday April 16th.
Situated beneath the St Georges Church, 35 Warwick Road and Earl Street,
The Bessie Boyd is rapidly establishing itself as a great venue for live music and its first jazz show will feature the north east piano and trumpet duo of Paul Edis & Graham Hardy.
Jazz on a Thursday night is nothing new for Carlisle, as the Carlisle Jazz Club is held at Carlisle’s Rugby Club every Thursday night, but to have two jazz gigs taking place at the same time is a rarity.
Organiser David Gosling, who has a history of staging jazz performances in unusual places, Andy Sheppard and Pee Wee Ellis in Lanercost Priory and Chicago’s Greg Spero Quartet at the Upfront Theatre for example, feels that the unique atmosphere of The Bessie Boyd is perfect for live music and in particular jazz.
Having two jazz performances in the city does not concern him either as, though far from ideal, the music is likely to appeal two different audiences with the jazz club gig featuring mostly traditional and New Orleans jazz whilst Edis and Hardy’s will serve up a much more contemporary sound.
Paul Edis, described as a 'brilliant young pianist' (Alyn Shipton, The Guardian) teams up with Graham Hardy a talented and versatile Trumpeter, composer and arranger to perform music by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis alongside their own original material.
