This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Vieux Carré Jazzmen to entertain the crowds at the opening of the Plaza (not Spanish City!) - Whitley Bay.

At 11am on Monday morning THE VIEUX CARRÉ JAZZMEN will be entertaining the crowds as the Rt Hon Alan Campbell MP officially opens the Plaza with its pedestrian walkway and impressive amphitheatre complete with black granite seating, stylish wooden benches and integral lighting systems. 
North Tyneside Council commissioned the new Plaza which connects the iconic Spanish City to the promenade and beach after successfully applying for a grant from the Coastal Communities Fund. It creates a high quality focal point for residents and visitors to enjoy all that Whitley Bay seafront has to offer, as well as the brilliant open air events, festivals and activities taking place throughout the year.

Hi, Lance! Just to clarify, it's the official OPENING of the PLAZA/PIAZZA adjacent to the Spanish City - not the reopening of the Spanish City itself.

Thanks for putting me right on that. I remember the old Plaza as a popular dance hall. Trying to remember the resident bands - can anyone help?
