Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Tasty Tailgate at The Millstone

It's one of the coldest weeks of the winter, but here's just a few of the dishes being served at The Millstone tomorrow afternoon that'll bring a warm glow to your cheeks:
Full Monty All-day Breakfast £4.95 They say this is the most important meal of the day and it doesn't get much better than this: 2 Pork Sausages, 2 rashers of Best Bacon, 2 Fried Eggs, Baked Beans, Grilled Tomato and the Chef's Hand-cut Home-fried Chips - better than the Chippy! or
Millstone Minted Lamb Pie £6.95 Local Lamb cooked with Sweet Carrots in a Red Wine Gravy and traditionally flavoured with a zingy Mint Sauce - it's Sunday Dinner in a pie! Served with Chef's Hand-cut Chips and Garden Peas or
Spinach & Ricotta Cannelloni (v) £5.75  Ricotta Cannelloni in a Spinach & Goats Cheese Sauce topped with Melted Cheese and served with 2 Slices of Garlic Bread and Hand-cut Chips plus at 1.00pm
The Vieux Carré Jazzmen £Free with our special guest (all the way from sunny California) ace trombonist, Brian Richardson. See you there, Brian Bennett.
