This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Amazingly, no one has come up with their Gig of the Year or their CD of the Year apart from Liz who plumped for Seth McFarlane's début album.
So I'm going to give you my favourites - in no particular order.

Was still mulling over my choice, I've picked out three gigs across the styles which I particularly enjoyed this year. Michael McQuaid's Halfway House Orchestra at WBJP, Steve Andrews/Graham Hardy Quintet at BJC and Watson Walker Edis at the L&P.
CD choice - the previously unreleased Jim Hall Live tracks (two new CDs) with Don Thompson & Terry Clark in Toronto in 1975 with Jim Hall playing with total abandon - just never heard him play in such a 'go for it' almost reckless fashion - quite amazing and great music.
