Bebop Spoken There

Kurt Elling: ''There's something to learn from every musician you play with''. (DownBeat, December 2024).

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Blaydon News.

Thurs 4th Oct - 8.30 start - adm. £5.00
Steve Andrews (sax/clt) and Graham Hardy (tpt/flgl) with The Blaydon Jazz Trio featuring Jeremy McMurray pno, Andy Champion bass and Adam Sinclair drums. Steve's great playing embodies the 30s/40s swing style tenor sax of Hawkins, Young, Webster, Berry - a master player of that idiom and a wonderful, distinctive clarinettist too. For this 'one off' collaboration he joins the ubiquitous Graham Hardy (tpt/flgl), a great local player, totally at home in all styles of jazz from Satchmo to Hubbard.

Thurs Nov 1st - 8.30 start - Adm. £5.00

Paul Edis Sextet
Paul's acclaimed NE sextet playing superb arrangements of standards plus a few originals. The sextet is made up of Paul's fine trio plus trumpet/trombone/saxophone front line - Graham Hardy, Chris Hibbard & Graeme Wilson. All great young players.
Thurs Dec 6th - CHRISTMAS CONCERT - 8.15 start - adm. £6.00 (includes buffet - as is our custom, please bring some small food contribution)
Frank Brooker + James Birkett Quartet
Frank tnr sax/clt, James gtr, Jeremy McMurray pno, Mick Shoulder bass and Adam Sinclair drums.
Once again we've booked Frank with James' Quartet after a lovely concert last year.
The November concert by the Ray Chester Big Band has been cancelled due to Ray's current state of health.

Roly.
