I reviewed this Berkshire based duo's first CD a couple of years back and found it very pleasant easy listening. It's still easy on the ear but, possibly because these tracks are all original compositions, the jazz content seems to have increased which is no bad thing.
Jennifer's voice appears to have moved away from Madeleine Peyroux and now is much warmer with shades of Stacey Kent's studio recordings. I don't know why it is but, to my ears, Stacey Kent never sounds as good live as she does on disc - maybe Jennifer is Stacey's studio alter ego!
Joking apart (am I joking?) Idle words is one of the very few jazz(ish) duos I've heard who could successfully sing/play a set of original songs to a non jazz audience!
It's cool and sophisticated yet easily accessible. The lyrics are great (Fedora rhymed with I adore ya - trombones with hormones) these are jazz lyrics worthy of becoming standards.
The actual music too is catchy and played effectively by Tom. I seem to think I heard a few bars of piano here and there - Mark Filby Smith doing the honours I'm told - and You Are The Song had some light to medium metal thrashing.
