This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. CD/Download review. The Matt Anderson Quartet.

Matt Anderson – Tenor, Aubin Vanns – Guitar, John Marley – Bass, Sam Gardner – Drums.
Some tasty playing by this young Leeds Based group. Leeds seems to be, if not the centre of the jazz universe, pretty close to it judging by the number of skilled musicians that have emerged from Leeds College of Music in recent years.
This CD/Download is a fine example of where it's at - The Matt Anderson Quartet.
It's contemporary, original, yet still based on those vital ingredients -harmony, melody and rhythm all knit sympathetically together.
The quartet, who are beginning to receive well deserved and wider recognition, will open up the Sunday afternoon session at this year's Scarborough Jazz Festival with a specially commisioned work Songs of the Ridings.
