This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. A chance to bid farewell to David Carnegie - Thursday May 5

As many of you will already know, David Carnegie, arguably one of the best musicians and drummers in the North East, and indeed this side of New York, will very soon be leaving us to return to his home country of Barbados.
In honour of Dave, and to commemorate what will be a great loss to our music scene, this weeks Jazz and Jam Session, which also happens to be in its first week at the new venue of Offshore 44, will be totally free, so that there will be a place for us to all meet and give Dave a proper send off.
Unfortunately this does mean we will be unable to offer the free drink that was promised, otherwise I'd be out of business faster than you can say 'All jazz musicians are alcoholics'.
Please come down to show David how much we'll miss him as well as to enjoy what will hopefully be an absolutely great night of Jazz.
