This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Today Looks Good

Lots happening today. Lunchtime has the JAZZ ESQUIRES at the Porthole by North Shields, Ferry Landing. Expect some surprises from the former Squadronaires' drummer.
Down river, Cullercoats' Crescent Club, the here, there and everywhere VIEUX CARRE JAZZMEN are stomping off at 1300 hours. Up at the Lambton Arms atop Eighton Banks, the equally ubiquitous MAINE STREET JAZZMEN and OLIVE tell it like it is.
Tonight it is piano players all round.
The ALAN GLEN TRIO at the Chilli on Chillingham Rd in the leafy Newcastle suburb of Heaton - another unmissable session.
Up the Spine Road to Ashington for the PAUL EDIS TRIO at the Elephant Jazz Club.
Down Hartlepool way the JEREMY McMURRAY QUARTET can be heard at The Causeway.
A veritable bag of sweets.
