This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. More piano! The Paul Edis Trio @ Ashington Jazz Club.

Wow! - I'm blown away by a great night with superb musicianship
What a lovely programme! With Paul doing the announcements without a mike it created a very ambient atmosphere giving the audience a feeling of involvement.
The first number, Yesterdays, was followed by Have You met Miss Jones and  Emily - a particularly neat arrangement - followed by a fairly straight ahead version of Meditation. 
After a long and lovely introduction where the tune was hidden from view the next number turned out to be Singing in the Rain . I requested one of Paul's originals - Big Jug Blues  which was followed by another original, Taking The Dog Out, and the interval number Cheek To Cheek. 
The second half started well with Sultry Serenade followed by My Funny Valentine and Dedicated to the Duke. Every Time You Say Goodbye, Some Day My Prince Will Come, Bye Bye Blackbird and Just One of Those Things completed a fantastic evening or, to summarise, it was quality tonight and the membership loved it.
