OK, since you asked...

... Paul Edis Sextet - Mr Hipster would certainly be a contender

Scusy me picking a Blaydon gig this year but I have to pick Vasilis Xenopoulos with Paul Edis Trio. Brilliant stuff. From what I heard their gig at Opus 4 was fabulous too.

Jazz gig of the year for me, probably - Paul Edis Sextet Mr Hipster @ Sage. Soul gig of the year - Chaka Khan with Incognito @ Hoochie Coochie. Venue(s) of the year - Hoochie Coochie and Pink Lane Jazz Caff.

Some great gigs to choose from this year & I have 2 favourites. Gregory Porter of course… everything’s been said already - fantastic musician & band, & what made it in even more special was the reception they got from the crowd at Hoochie Coochie. Well done Warren for catching them just before GP went stellar, & I bet they enjoyed playing there more than Buckingham Palace. My joint favourite is the Kurt Elling & SNJO gig in Edinburgh a few weeks earlier – the most outstanding vocal performance I have seen, combined with top big band & excellent arrangements. It would be great to see Elling performing at The Sage .
Best wishes for 2015, & thanks for all your efforts
