This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Riketté Genesis @ Cafe Boheme, Soho, London - Apr. 16

When in London it's always worth looking in on Cafe Boheme. The Old Compton Street venue presents an afternoon gig every day of the week. Nominally free admission, it costs no more than the price of a beer or a coffee. In Soho, that's a bargain! 

This Thursday afternoon we were listening to the first of two sets by vocalist Riketté Genesis and pianist George Webster. I Can't Give You Anything but Love, Baby for openers: bold, bright, engaging, our duo playing for themselves, the listening few and a dancing couple.

Riketté Genesis had been on BSH's radar for a while and, being in London, this was an opportunity to catch our vocalist in concert in an intimate venue. It wasn't all about  Riketté, far from it. Sparring partner George Webster made a big impression, as accompanist (deft left hand) and soloist. 

Ain't Misbehavin', Blue Moon, Mean to Me, familiar numbers, but none the worse for that. It would have been nice to stay a while longer, but gig number two of the day beckoned. Russell
