Following on from her previous album, At Home, Fulton gives another display of her awesome vocal and piano technique creating a true party atmosphere. Opening up with The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else and I Cried for You and supported by the similarly named Tanaka and Tainaka on bass and drums respectively this is a trio that honours past legends whilst keeping the format in today's frame.
In particular Wayne Shorter's One by One is a fine example. No vocal on this one just a nice groove by the trio. The addition of Lindquist's alto enhances Fulton's exquisite take on Stardust with Weeds doing likewise on Get Out of Town.
Billie's Bounce begins relatively sedately with Fulton hinting at the fireworks to follow before both horns come out slugging over the swinging rhythm section. JATP lives with, in true tradition, a drum solo that had the party-goers roaring their approval.
The two horns are marginally more restrained on Mabel Mercer's Carry me Back to Old Manhattan. A nice tune with a clever lyric.
Quite a House Party. Lance
