This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Strictly Smokin' Big Band @ O2 City Hall - Dec. 21

It's almost here - the BIG ONE! Yes, tonight sees SSBB's fifteenth annual Christmas concert taking place, for the first time, at Newcastle's premier concert venue - the City Hall. The same venerable building that in years gone by featured big bands such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Woody Herman as well as orchestral behemoths such as the Hallé, the Royal Philharmonic, the Northern Sinfonia and many more.


Sunday's concert combines all of those elements and more in the form of the wonderful Northern Orchestra led by Bradley Creswick, special guest vocalist Matt Ford, alongside Sanaz Lavasani and, of course, Alice Grace.

All of that to go alongside the full Strictly Smokin' Big Band team... it's gonna be one heck of a night!


This year the band are over the moon to be supporting the charity Mind with their performance. They do amazing work all year round, but they are invaluable to many at Christmas time. Lance
