Hutton Rudby Village Hall, near Stokesley, has established itself as a nice little music venue, and this was HCdNs 3rd visit here. It was a special event, as Alan, who had originally persuaded the organisers to book HCdN, had unfortunately died earlier in the year, and all the proceeds from the night, including the raffle, were going to the British Heart Foundation, in his memory.
Emma promised us an evening of gypsy jazz, with a small helping of festive songs. We were given warning of the Xmas songs by Bruce donning his Xmas hat (a fine top hat with holly trimmings), which was then removed for the other songs. The band were all in fine form, and given a great reception by a full house. My personal highlight was an uptempo gypsy jazz version of God rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, but the whole set was played with the band's usual enthusiasm and technical prowess.
Special thanks to the organisers for a well run event, and to Alan, for bringing gypsy jazz to rural North Yorkshire. Ian Hodgson
