This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Three of a (different) kind on BBC2 tonight

At 9:10pm tonight, BBC2 pays tribute to Cleo Laine who died last month (July 24) at the age of 97. The programme, Cleo Laine at the BBC, will be a rescreening of performances from the broadcaster's archives.

An hour later at 10:10pm, the BBC continues with Aretha Franklin at the BBC with archival performances by the Queen of Soul.

10:55pm and it's time for Tina Live, a 2009 performance by Tina Turner in the Dutch city of Arnhem. 

A varied selection showcasing three singers who, although stylistically poles apart, were simply the best at what they did. Lance
