This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. The Black Swan is crowdfunding - dig deep!

Newcastle Arts Centre is a major cultural asset to the city of Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider region. Located on Westgate Road, its many buildings are home to myriad arts and arts-related ventures: galleries, studio spaces, a performance space, a crafts shop, an arts materials shop and more. 

In the Arts Centre's basement, accessed via a tranquil courtyard and steep flight of stairs, is the Black Swan. The welcoming, exposed brick space is home to a wide range of events, including a renowned twice-monthly jazz jam session. However, the historic site is lacking in one respect - its split-level floor doesn't afford easy access to all. 

A staff-assisted service lift is available to those who find the basement's layout difficult, if not impossible, to navigate. However, Newcastle Arts Centre is determined to make its premises fully integrated and inclusive to all with the installation of a disabled access platform lift.  And that's where the crowdfunding appeal comes in. Newcastle Arts Centre is a not-for-profit social enterprise and your donation - however large or small - will go a long way in reaching the appeal's target. Together, we can do it. Dig deep!
