The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Remembering the Ronnie Scott Band

Many thanks to Angela Dimond who sent me this photo of the Ronnie Scott Band circa 1953-56.

The photo belonged to Angela's mother Mavis Gregson who was a big fan of the bands who visited and played in the various clubs and dance halls in and around the Manchester area.

On the back of the photo Mavis managed to get the autographs of trombonist Ken Wray, bassist Lennie Bush, trumpet player Jimmy Deuchar and that great County Durham born alto saxist Derek Humble.

The ones who escaped Mavis' Biro were saxmen Pete King and Benny Green, pianist Norman Stenfalt, drummer Tony Crombie and, of course, the leader himself who was probably on the phone to his bookie.
