Ella Hohnen Ford (vocals)
Hohnen Ford, no first name. It's Ella, of course,
Ella Hohnen Ford. At Alfie & Fins. Alfie and where? you ask. It's in the
Land of Green Ginger. Where? you ask. Let's just say it's in Tynemouth. So how
did (Ella) Hohnen Ford come to have a gig in this most bijou of spaces? An
agent, a well-connected agent, it would seem.
Ms Hohnen Ford first came to the attention of BSH thanks to lockdown livestreams, singing with the likes of Joe Webb, Will Sach et al. Post lockdown, BSH heard Hohnen Ford live at the 100 Club, guesting with Adrian Cox. This Tynemouth gig, the fourth of a headlining tour, attracted an audience (one of whose number travelled down from Scotland) but one thing was for sure, not one of the select audience had been seen on the local jazz scene.
And there's the rub...Hohnen Ford was in singer-songwriter mode, playing piano. Jazz? Nope! Any good? Yep, if singer-songwriters are your thing.
yeemz (cello, vocals)
Earlier, yeemz, that's lower case 'yeemz', opened for Hohnen Ford. From California, yeemz (that's Yi-Mei Templeman) plays cello as a guitar, seated, instrument horizontally in her lap, strumming and singing.
As the singer-songwriter evening drew to a close, yeemz joined Hohnen Ford for one number (yeemz playing banjo!). An interesting evening for the jazz and non-jazz fan alike. Russell
