This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Mark Williams Trio @ the Central Bar, Gateshead - June 2

A lovely June day, maybe some decided to opt for the garden and get a BBQ going but the more discerning went for a wiser option, spend Sunday afternoon at the Central Bar for an immersive experience with the Mark Williams Trio!

The guys hit the ground running with an amazing performance of Recovery Blues - totally mesmerising. Weird Country with no explanation of which weird place he was referring to but there are plenty to choose from. The first set concluded with No More an anagram of Moreno (Mike) apparently our man had been listening to the New York guitarist. Mark's compositions however, are absolutely his own.

Paul Susans bass guitar and Rob Walker drums,  the perfect partners for Mark, clearly enjoy playing this exciting music together.

The second eagerly awaited set  gave us more of Mark Williams' awesome original compositions, I have no titles but the music speaks for itself. The long awaited new album has now been recorded so I urge you to look out for the release date. In the meantime go see these guys next time  on June 14 at the Old Library, Auckland Castle, Bishop Auckland - 1:00pm. Pam
