Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Harry Keeble & Dean Stockdale @ St George's Church, Jesmond, Newcastle - June 28

St George's Friday lunchtime concert series included a jazz gig featuring two well known faces. Tenor saxophonist Harry Keeble and pianist Dean Stockdale played for three quarters of an hour to a congregation of a few tens of jazz - and non-jazz - parishioners. Harry's tenor cut through loud and clear, Dean's keyboard less so. 

Sonny Rollins' Sonnymoon for Two and Hank Mobley's This I Dig of You were the uptempo selections, Harry stretching out. Billy Strayhorn's A Flower is a Lovesome Thing and David Mann's In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning vied for the highlight of the afternoon. This being a performance in a church, the setting didn't encourage the applause one would expect at a small venue jazz gig. That said, Harry and Dean were more than up to the mark in making the gig work. Russell
