This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. R.I.P Ted Pearce.

Ted  Pearce, who died recently, was an accomplished pianist, a true gentleman and someone who had a good word for everyone. All who knew him liked him and held him in high esteem.

He played trumpet in the army but later switched to piano with great effect. Ted graced the rhythm section of most of the leading big bands in the Teesside area including Musicians Unlimited, Darlington Big Band, the Alf Hines Band and many others.

He guested with Tees Hot Club (see photo) many times in their weekly Thursday sessions at Dorman's Club in Middlesbrough.

Always immaculately dressed when he played, collar and tie, suit or blazer, Ted was typically "old school".

Ted was in his '90s when he died in hospital after a short illness.  He will be sadly missed by all of those who knew him, particularly those involved in the local music scene. Sadly missed. Ron Hampton
