This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Nigel Price Organ Trio @ Jazz at the Lit & Phil - Nov. 17

On the 16th (yesterday), a colleague on this blog  comprehensively reviewed the trio’s Nov 12, sell out, appearance at Queen’s Hall Hexham. They also played yet another sell out gig at the Globe last night. Today’s lunchtime concert at the Lit and Phil had been sold out weeks in advance too.   Nothing really left for me to say except wow! and double wow!

If you were there then you know what I’m saying and if you weren’t then you missed one of the most exciting, dazzling, innovative, at times funky, at times moving, perhaps the most brilliant hour ever spent at the Lit and Phil’s monthly jazz offering. Did I enjoy it? Did I not!

Next time the Nigel Price trio is anywhere within travelling distance, beg steal, borrow or even buy a ticket!

The set, all too short, comprised a selection of original compositions: Hey Shirley; Night Flight and Booze Blues as well as  Indian Summer, the beautiful ballad Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most (Wolf/Landesman) and the Ray Charles classic You Don’t Know Me (Arnold/Walker). Sylvia T
