In the early days of BSH I was very naive so that when the opportunity arrived to do a live interview with Darius Brubeck ahead of the Brubeck brothers concert at, as it was then, Sage Gateshead I jumped in head first.
Firstly, I decided I needed a phone bug. It was raining proverbially, if not literally, cats and dogs - my cat had the sense to stay indoors - whereas I went down the mean streets.
Because of the weather I was wearing a hat that could have been mistaken for a Fedora and a raincoat the could later have been identified as a trench-coat. In other words, I must have looked like an out of town hitman - particularly when I went into a shop that sold the sort of thing I was looking for and said, 'I need to record a telephone conversation.'
The blonde behind the counter said, 'he's got a gun in his pocket' and I said, 'no I'm just pleased to see you!'
That last paragraph is all lies but if a blog is to compete with the rest of social media you've gotta tell lies to stay in the game.
Anyway, having said all that, HERE is a reprise of that first and, in my opinion, best interview that BSH ever did. Lance
