This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Remembering Kathy Stobart who died nine years ago today.

Bernard McCalinden kindly sent me a photo copy of an article he wrote for Perfectly Frank. the quarterly journal of the Sinatra Music Society, profiling the late Kathy Stobart. 

As most readers of BSH will know Kathy was born in South Shields and went on to become a highly acclaimed tenor/soprano sax player with a variety of bands including Vic Lewis and Humphrey Lyttelton as well as various small groups.

The article, which runs to, at a rough guess, 7,000 words spread over 5 x  A4 sheets plus the above graphic, was published in issue 352 (July, August, September, 2012) of Perfectly Frank. It's a well-written piece that documents her life up to her retirement and is well worth trying to chase down either on ebay or via the Sinatra Music Society.*
