Sinne Eeg and Thomas Fonnesbæk keep in touch. Collaborators across a number of projects, their voice and bass duo is one of them. BSH's reviewers have waxed lyrical about several of Ms Eeg's albums (duo with Fonnesbæk, small group and big band recordings). Is Staying in Touch deserving of similar, fulsome praise?
Sinne Eeg's lower register vocals are seemingly pitch perfect. Whatever the material, from standards to original compositions, the Dane's command of a lyric and the English language cannot be faulted.
Listen, and listen again, what you hear is perfection. Eleven tracks, from the opening Spring Waltz (Thomas Fonnesbæk/Helle Hansen) to Lennon and McCartney's The Long and Winding Road to How Deep is the Ocean? (Irving Berlin) and Just One of Those Things (Cole Porter), Ms Egg is a joy to listen to. Thomas Fonnesbæk is, perhaps, the greatest bassist - Danish or any other nationality - since Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. In possession of flawless technique, endless harmonic invention and a warm, rounded tone, Fonnesbæk is the perfect foil to Eeg.
