The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Joe Webb & Will Sach play Ellington - May 1

Realising Thursday (April 29) marked the date of Duke Ellington's birth (1899) Joe and Will scrapped their intended set list in favour of a celebration of the music of Edward Kennedy Ellington. Live streaming from Joe's kitchen it was Duke all the way. Highlights? Everything about the hour. Choose one? Joe Webb's startling intro to Prelude to a Kiss. Choose another? Will's bass playing! Simply superb.

I just watched this as missed the original broadcast he is just a great player for someone so young but he makes it look so simple . If you watch him play Cottontail its effortless but the improvisation is so complex . He deserves far more recognition than he will probably every get as he is a talent , a fact that I find galling when you see all these talentless people garner fame and achieve levels of notoriety they simply don't deserve.
