This was an absolute gem - Emma and co certainly slayed 'em at the Hot Club tonight or, to be more precise, the Lubetkin Theatre, East Durham College, Peterlee.

That the theatre was empty, apart from the technicians more of whom we'll hear about later, the  cosy design of the set made me feel I was in their living room. In fact Bruce was standing so close to the open fire I feared there would be more than chestnuts getting roasted!

Although James Birkett was having a night off, there could have been no finer dep than his former star pupil Bradley Johnston. Their musical paths have become so intertwined in recent years that they now meet on a level playing field. Likewise, when it comes to Djangoistic playing Dave Harris too is a master of the style.

With Bruce slapping merrily away the trio gave Emma the perfect launching pad as she sashayed down the Rue de Clichy swinging her handbag. Emma confessed she'd never been to Paris and didn't own a handbag. Was this a Christmas present hint? A trip to Paris or maybe un sac à main d'une boutique (Primark)? On this performance our girl deserved nothing less than Louis Vuitton's finest!

It may have been a relatively familiar programme but, can these four swing or can they swing? 

They can!

Suddenly, it began to snow and the technical team appeared complete with snow machine!

I wonder if they rent the snow machine out on Christmas Day? It's as good as the real stuff - a bit like the band - Bravo!
