Not Your Daddy's Jazz Band - Tiger Rag (feat. Harvey Wainapel)

I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a record such as this since, say, The Billy Cotton Band Show! Maybe even before. On the plus side, fans of Spike Jones and his City Slickers, Sid Millward and his Nitwits, Dr. Crock and his Crackpots or Peewee Hunt will perhaps see this as the Second Coming oblivious to the fact that, on the minus side, among all the whistles and motor horns, the other noises are of Nick LaRocca, Leon Roppolo, Kid Ory and King Oliver - maybe even Acker Bilk - turning over in their graves!

In fairness to Aussie bandleader Jimmy Layton, he isn't aiming at challenging anyone from Freddie Keppard to Freddie Hubbard just reminding us that jazz can be fun. Of course, fun isn't always funny and, in this case ... judge for yourself!

Would have been even funnier if they'd played the right chords.

The art work borrows from Salvador Dali's Persistence of Memory - all very surreal, you could say!
