As ever, I turned up late and only caught the final three numbers. Needless to say, they were absolute crackers - even Over the Rainbow which I normally file alongside Summertime as a must to avoid. Not tonight though, tonight Liane did Harold Arlen proud.
This was book-ended by a sizzling Falling in Love With Love and an effective version of Stevie Wonder's You Are the Sunshine of my Life. The former had, apart from Liane's piano accompaniment which was sheer artistry in itself, an incredible scat chorus that showed any scatting apprentices just how it's done although it's not advisable to try it at home without a safety net. Sunshine may have been from a different era but it was equally impressive in the hands (and voice) of Lady Jazz.
Roger, who'd sat out for Rainbow, provided absolutely solid support on the other two numbers and together they made a great team.
I'm putting next Wednesday down in my diary now - setting the alarm for 8:00pm! In the meantime, I'll catch up on what I missed tonight, tomorrow.
