You can't beat a Sunday afternoon of music at Hoochie. Today we had disco/funk/soul/country/rock/reggae/hip hop/rap/ska/ a whiff of jazz and, probably the only thing missing from this set, was a Gregorian chant although one of those may have turned up in the second set (I left at intermission time having been taken suddenly drunk!)
It was a fun afternoon by a band that knows their audience and hits them with it full on.
Yippee-I-Ay was like cowboys riding the range on Harley Davidsons. They're energetic, Gaughan and Burns pogoing as they play and sing. Kerry Green is an amazing soul singer - she has to be. After her predecessor, Ruth Davy (she'd left to get married and have babies and things), took to the stage and blew the room away, Kerry gave her a hug and proceeded to do her own demolition act.
Jamie Toms was on keyboards tonight. I wondered - tenor man on keys... the wondering stopped when he pressed the B3 button!
Burns, who it would appear is triple-jointed, rubber-limbed and a mover and a groover, took to the dance floor and invited ladies to dance - they declined. He returned to the stage joining Kerry to belt out Psychedelicfunkindiscodancer or something that sounded like that!
The two saxes soloed and traded fours, Wasp played some stinging guitar lines. This was far removed from my normal comfort zone but hey - it was great!
