This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Ashington Jazz Club

It is with great regret and after lot of thought that I have decided that I must close down the jazz club. It is no longer viable in its present format. The final session will be on the 5th August 2015
3 reasons:-
Falling numbers - half of what we need.
Lack of disabled access.
Several health & safety issues with the venue.
Another time another place? I will give my full support to anyone prepared to take it on
Many thanks for your friendship and support over the last 6 years at the Elephant and 31 years for the club.

So sad that the club has had to end its run. But many, many thanks to John for keeping it alive for so long, and introducing us to so many different artists / bands that we would almost certainly have missed. Thanks again John.
