This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Travel Update for Blaydon

This is for anyone coming to tomorrow night’s Xmas party at the Black Bull, Blaydon.
The old Scotswood Bridge (not the A1 bridge) has a diversion on the Blaydon side. It’s not very clearly marked.
If you are coming over from the north best come down the A1 and take the first slip road off once you cross the river.
At the roundabout take the A694 for Consett. At the next roundabout turn right (the B6317) which bring you into Blaydon after about one mile.
For anyone coming along the western by-pass, past the Metro Centre, take the next slip road after the Metro Centre turn off, marked for Swalwell & Whickham. Turn right at the roundabout onto the B6317 and follow it straight on - it leads into Blaydon after about one mile. 
The old A695 bridge  (a box girder bow shaped bridge) seems to need regular maintenance. We'd have been better off with the old Chain Bridge built in 1831 which was built to last, like a lot of Victorian civil engineering. Trouble was - it was just one lane only so a slight bottleneck in its latter years. Many experts though felt it was the most beautiful of all the Tyne bridges and of course its immortalised in the Blaydon Races song. Bring back the Victorians when we could do things in style and made to last without cheap-skating it. Not sure if they were keen on jazz though??
