This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jazz @ The Fell @ The Legion - Gavin Lee's New Orleans Jazz Band. Friday March 30.

The weekly spot at the Fell featured Gavin's dixieland jazz .....with the soothing dulcet tones of the charming Beth Miller as an oh so welcome bonus ........
A number of Jimmy Noone tracks to kick start the night, before Beth reminded us of the recent heatwave with Summertime followed by the  soothing All of me. After the brolley parade, more from Beth with On the Sunny Side of the Street & Love Letters (straight from the heart) featuring Jim on alto sax to give us that romantic feeling .....
Uptempo next with Tight Like That and Jim showing off his undoubted virtuosity with vocals too ....
Irving Berlin's When the Midnight Choo Choo Leaves For Alabam featured Fred now on vocals, then Johnny Ray's (and several 100 others) Walking my Baby Back Home took us all too soon to the finale of Beth's Every time We Say Goodbye
We of course did not want to say goodbye, but, after another good night at the Fell, we felt that Gavin & his "boys" with the added beauty of Beth had more than satisfied our appetite for the evening.........
