This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Konitz Condition Improving.

Lee Konitz, 83 year old altoist is reported to be on the mend after undergoing brain surgery in Australia. His concert last Thursday was cancelled and Lee underwent a brain operation in Sydney. His condition is said to be "hopeful".

Thanks for that post, I didn't know he was ill, I only saw him at The Blue Note in NYC on June 3rd.

Listening to Lee with Bill Evans and others, Live at the Half Note sometime in the 70s, and reminiscing about his performance in Sydney around 1990 at the Real Ale Cafe with Paul Grabowsky and others, a memorable gig.
The guy is a legend, what a blower!
Thanks for letting us know of his battle and hoping we can hear plenty more of them beautiful licks.
