This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Jazz Café Jam

Passing by the Jazz Café on Newcastle's Pink Lane en route to Central Station I noticed a sign saying Sunday Afternoon Jam Session - jazz musicians welcome - 2:00pm - ? Anyone got more info? Lance.

Hi Lance The Jazz Cafe is just putting on extra day for us jazz lovers all musicians welcome some times it goes on until 9pm every one welcome It also helps keith with extra cash off bar, regards Eric

ive been 3 times since it started 5weeks ago.

the jazz cafe jam is led by the irrepressible pete gilligan on keys with paul granger on double bass, young omid has bought kit along most weeks, mark williams has been strutting his high energy stuff using the infamous jazz cafe house guitar amp,sarah travener is on tenor, and lindsay hannon displays her eclectic vocal talents.

this lineup has been joined at times by an impressive horn section including stewart and fiona from budvivar, and chris finch and i have both stepped away from the piano to play tenor and trumpet respectively.
many other guest guitarists, pianists singers, a harmonica players rappers and drummers(including david carnegie last sunday) have got on the bandstand and contributed to what seems to me to be one of the coolest things happening on a sunday afternoon in newcastle.
it starts at around two thirty,
and ends when it ends (between half nine and twelve when ive been)

yes indeed, it is a great opportunity on a sunday afternoon and evening to immerse ourselves in Jazz and join the brilliant community that makes it happen in the 'toon, (in all its different places and times).
