After last night's amazing gig at the Saville I looked for more of the same and I'm pleased to say the lady didn't fail to deliver.

From the core of last night's programme were added some delicious alternatives.

I Thought About You, In The Still of the Night, World on a String, Lullaby of Birdland, Sand in my Shoes (tribute to Connee Boswell), What's New, Lover Come Back To Me - every one a gem. Then there were vocal duets with Digby - Sugar and the hilarious The Bathtub Ran Over Again. Only Johnny Mercer could make a love song out of that title!

Dominic and Len again scored, this time with Limehouse Blues.

What I love about Daryl is the way she can engage with the audience. Awhile back Liz remarked on how Stephen Triffet (and Sinatra) could make a woman think the love lyrics were solely directed at her - well Daryl made me, and I'm sure every other male this side of senility of which there were a few, feel the same.

Truly a class act.

On the downside, the turnout was poor and this was at a venue that is normally very well attended. A look at the logistics of the exercise might question the viability of putting an act on at a venue only 12 miles from where they were the previous night and charging an extra fiver for it. However, this is only a surface view and there were things like the hire of a grand piano to bring into the equation so I'm sure the organisers had their reasons.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the opportunity of hearing for two nights running one of the best living jazz singers in the world.
