This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Gig of the Year

Chris Yates has come up with the following suggestion: Nominations for the Gig of the Year.
Chris's own suggestion is:
"Gateshead Jazz Festival March, 2009 : the double bill of JOSHUA REDMAN TRIO and GUY BARKER JAZZ ORCHESTRA. The Joshua Redman Trio would have been my 'Gig of 2009' by itself, but sharing a concert with Guy Barker's terrific Jazz Orchestra...no contest, as they say."
I'll have to think about mine.
Also, perhaps two categories a general one and one involving local (local to you) musicians rather than 'visiting firemen'.
As local can mean anywhere from Newcastle to New York (and 'Old York') state clearly where the gig took place.

My vote goes to Sheila Jordan, Brian Kellock Trio + guest Cleveland Watkiss at Gateshead Jazz Festival.

I agree with Roly - this concert stands out as the most enjoyable for me. However, I think Roly might be referring to the night concert. I'll vote for the day concert which had Ian Shaw included as well. For local musicians I'd go for either one of Alan Glen's Chilli concerts or one of Paul Edis'.

I would say either The Music of Duke Ellington + Billy Strayhorn (featuring Northern Sinfonia, Guy Barker Jazz Orchestra and Tim Garland) or Julian Arguelles Trio + John Abercrombie. Alan Glen would be local gig of the year.
