This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Blues (For the Fisherman) To Be There

Laurie Pepper put this out on Facebook... "If you're in L.A. on October 9th: Fred Seldon will be playing Art Pepper with Milcho Leviev & maybe the rest of Art's wonderful '80's band at a huge jazz event out in the Santa Monica area on Friday. It's a whole Kenton a...lumni, nostalgia thing.It's put on by the L.A. Jazz Institute http://lajazzinstitute.org/ I'm scanning and sending a bunch of music to them. I'm going to have a table there selling books and albums. Please come out to The Sheraton Four Points in Santa Monica and say hi!" Sounds good - shame it's just an ocean and a continent too far for me. Still, over here we've got Ruth and the Customs House Big Band at South Shields or the On The Outside Festival on the inside of Gateshead Old Town Hall so it should still be a 'good' Friday although, which ever gig I choose, a part of me will be in Santa Monica.
