Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Enid Stafford (Feb., 23, 1940 - August 8, 2025)

Funerals are never easy and it's difficult, perhaps even hypocritical, to say it was a joyous occasion - similar to ticking the thumbs up box on a F/book comment on somebody' death.

And yet, after the Humanist service at South Tyneside Crem. where we had all gathered to celebrate the life of Enid Stafford followed by the wake at the Lakeside Inn it was a joyous affair and, being the outgoing person that Enid was, I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

So, after an emotive poem written by husband Tom and recited with similar feeling by his brother Dave we also had music by Mark Knopfler, Andy Williams and Razzle Dazzle from the soundtrack of Chicago - Enid and Tom's favourite musical.

From a personal point of view it was good  to meet up with many of the old J.G. Windows Ltd. gang: Liz, Diane, Gill, Jackie, Carol, Helen, Jan, Neil, Andrea, Dave, Brian M and probably others most of whom seemed to have fought the aging process and won.

Thank you Enid, wherever you are, you will be forever in the thoughts and hearts of the many people who shared even a small part of your journey through life.

R.I.P. Lance
