This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Preview: Sunday night @ the Globe - Chris Coull Quartet.

This Sunday night at the Globe (August 24) looks to be something special - particularly if you like bebop and beyond in the form of those Blue Note 'buglers' Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Fats Navarro, Kenny Dorham and Blue Mitchell to name but some.

Chris Coull has assimilated the above stylists and, with the addition of his own individuality, created music that's alive and kicking today without giving the occasional reminder of the music's roots.

For once this blog will live up to its name.

Alongside Chris, Joe Steels (guitar); Andy Champion (bass) and John Bradford (drums) will provide the solid support we have grown to expect from them. Lance
