Ruth Lambert (vocals); Alan Law (keys); Paul Grainger (bass); Tim
Johnston (drums).
For
those who appreciate the finer aspects of a vocalist and her fellow musicians
enjoying what they are doing to the full, last night’s session at the Globe
was an absolute treat.
Ruth’s fabulous voice with its wide range and subtle interpretation is perfectly suited to whatever mood the songs demand. Be it ballad, bossa or blues, samba or swing, she makes them her own.
Especially
lovely was But Beautiful, delicate
and heartfelt, so very powerful. A couple of numbers by Michel Legrand and a
magnificent Love me Like a Man added
to the diversity of her programme.
Of
course none of this would be quite as good without the stellar support of her
trio: Law, Grainger and Johnston - all stars in their own right.
A
very enjoyable evening. Sheila H
