‘Lullaby (for the end of the world) showcases a new side to Slowlight Quartet with the inclusion of both vocals (YVA) and guitar (Athol Cassidy) and a more groove based approach featuring double bass and synth bass. This is something the quartet were starting to work on just before they went on hiatus in 2015.
With the members being based internationally (UK / Finland / Montenegro) demo ideas were bounced around and ideas added before we finally (after COVID stopped us two years running) managed to get together in August 2022 for two days to rehearse and record two tunes.
This single was recorded live in the Cupola Studios in the old John Marley Centre in Newcastle’s West End under the watchful eye of engineer and producer Liam Gaughan. The vocals were then laid down later in Liam’s home studio with Athol recording the guitar remotely. YVA was given free reign in the outro to really ‘go for it’ which she promptly did! Paul ‘zoomed in’ from Finland to oversee the session so it really was a triumph of technology.’
