Interesting podcast by Simon Whiteside and Nick Tomalin who look at the work of pianist Kenny Drew (no relation to our ace photographer of the same name). This, the last one of their second series, examines some of the recordings Drew made with Dexter Gordon.
Whiteside and Tomalin are both accomplished jazz pianists so they know what they're talking about! Listen here.
In series one they talked about another of the Blue Note pianists - Sonny Clark.
Tomalin has also released a rather fine digital duo album with saxist Mark Allaway which can be heard via this Spotify link.
Titled Brew Time the cover shows a cup of tea resting on, presumably, The Times crossword - the music deserves nothing less. The duo interact intuitively Allaway's gorgeous round tone and Tomalin's interwoven lines complement each other resulting in an album that, had it been a physical copy, I'd have been playing over and over again. However, you know how it is with downloads - out of sight, out of mind.
