This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. We're not yet in total lockdown...

After much thought and consultation with the musicians, Hexham Jazz Club have decided to go ahead with tonight's (Tuesday 17) gig at the Fox Inn. The Dean Stockdale Trio comprising County Durham based pianist Stockdale, ever dependable Paul Grainger on bass and brilliant young drummer Abbie Finn, guarantee a swinging evening of jazz. and hopefully, if only for one night, you'll be able to forget your troubles and just get happy.

Dean cites Oscar Peterson as an influence, Paul is the linchpin of many bands and Abbie is fast becoming a 'first call' musician on the scene. 


So, here's the deal...Hexham Jazz Club currently operates on a donations basis (a suggested donation of £5), musicians shouldn't and don't work for nothing, therefore, if jazz at the Fox is to continue it needs you to get along to support it. The first set starts at 8:30, it's free admission, a generous donation would be welcome and the Fox's jazz-supporting publican, whilst understanding and appreciating anyone's decision to stay at home, would be happy to see you there.

Is Hexham Jazz Club@The Fox in a Corona Virus-free zone?
It appears everyone else is taking the spread of Covid-19 VERY seriously and are following the advice and recommendations from the Government, Public Health England and the WHO. Jazzers living on the edge, eh!
