Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Friday 13th strikes....

(Press release)

We're incredibly sorry to let you know that due to the Coronavirus outbreak Danny Jonokuchi will no longer be joining us at Flat Caps Coffee. We're gutted!

The end of his tour in Israel with Eyal Vilner's brilliant New York big band has been cancelled, and Danny is returning to the USA.

However, the show must go on - - plus we have SOLD OUT!!!

We're still going to feature all of Danny's amazing charts, many of which are vocals featuring the fabulous Alice Grace.

Plus, Pete Tanton, Michael Lamb and Gordon Marshall will be stepping up to take on trumpet solo duties in Danny's place.

We know this will be be a disappointment to some, but hope you'll still join us at Flat Caps next Friday for what is going to be a fabulous night of new arrangements.

The set we've been preparing is virtually unchanged and we have a couple of new surprises up our sleeves to make up for Danny's absence.

If, however, you would like a refund on your ticket - that is no problem at all and we completely understand. Please send an e-mail to support@ticketsource.co.uk with your booking reference and they will organise the return of your payment. If we have not heard from you by Wednesday evening, we'll assume you'd still like to attend.

Kind regards,
Michael & the SSBB
