This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Sunday Jazz in Middlesbrough

Following the success of the Middlesbrough Jazz Weekender in October 2018- the first major jazz event in the town for forty years- we are now proud to announce that the Town Hall will host a monthly Middlesbrough Sunday Jazz event- featuring multiple bands in one afternoon across different styles of jazz- but always with the emphasis on entertainment and variety.

The monthly series kicks off on Sunday, September 22 with performances by the Noel Dennis Trio, Emma Johnson’s Gravy Boat and Anthony Strong.

Middlesbrough Sunday Jazz will showcase the best jazz talent from the North East and across the UK, from soloists like pianist Gwilym Simcock to large scale line-ups like the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra.


The programme also includes a number of special events.

The Sunday Jazz Special will be held on Sunday, October 27, a year after the 2018 Jazz Weekender, with workshops, free performances throughout the day in the Fire Station, and afternoon and evening performances from Tommy Smith and Brian Kellock, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and many more.

Paul Edis’s Jazzy Christmas on Sunday, December 15 offers jazz-infused Christmas tunes that the whole family will enjoy, and a Scottish line-up on Sunday, January 19 will herald the coming of Burns Night.

Event-goers can purchase food and drink from the popular Carriageway Café, and a fully licensed bar will operate throughout.

Special offer - book three or more Sunday Jazz events at the same time and get another Sunday Jazz ticket free.

Book all seven Sunday Jazz events at the same time and get a free ticket to the Jazz Special on Sunday 27 October, worth £15.

The programme has been created by experienced jazz producers Ros Rigby and Heather Spencer.

Sunday Jazz will take place on the following dates: September 22, October 27, November 17, December 15, January 19, February 16 and March 29.
