Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

CD Review: Yoko Miwa Trio - Keep Talkin'

Yoko Miwa (piano); Will Slater (bass); Scott Goulding (drums); Brad Barrett (bass on 1 track).
(Review by Lance)
You know the feeling, you've got no money coming in and the bills are arriving on a conveyer belt and you wonder HTF am I going to pay them? The solution is, of course, to rob Peter to pay Paul and, ultimately, vice versa.

This is my situation - no I'm not looking for money - I need volunteers*. Volunteers to review the deluge of CDs that have already occupied my garage and are making inroads into just about every room in the house - and I mean every room! Apart from that, there are n downloads and streamers hovering out in cyberspace threatening to land. My postman will expect a tip the equivalent of maybe half of the national debt or perhaps a copy of the Yoko Miwa Trio's album, Keep Talkin'...
He could do worse...

Miwa, a Japanese born, Boston based, pianist, composer (a professor at Berklee) plays a lot of piano and this CD features her playing jazz standards such as In Walked Bud; Boogie Stop Shuffle; Golden Slumbers/You Never Give me Your Money (Beatles); Conversation (Joni Mitchell) plus several of her own compositions with a couple of great guys supporting her all of the way. If you like jazz piano - look no further.
Lance.
